Catnip is a common herb which is found in the mint family. This plant is easy to grow in North America and has light-green foliage with lavender flowers.
Inside catnip leaves, there is an oil called Nepetalactone. Exposure to can cause some behavioural changes in cats.
Cats have an extra organ for scent called the vomeronasal gland, which is found on the roof of their mouth. This allows scents to be collected in the nose and mouth and carried to the brain.
What behavioural changes may happen when your cat is exposed to catnip?
Nothing too damaging happens! When your feline is exposed to catnip, they may experience some sex hormones similar to a female cat in heat. Other behaviours can include signs of affection, reaction, and happiness. However, some cats will display playfulness or sometimes even aggression.
